Dickens Offers several different types of grass seed to fit the needs of most customers. From Tall Fescue and Shade blends for home lawns and parks to Bermuda and Perinnial Rye for Sports fields and golf courses, we should have what you need.


Most of our seed choices are in a blend. This helps us put together a better product. When we have 3 varieties in a blend one may handle drought well, one may be very disease tolerant and one variety may have the best color. We use these factors to build a great bag of grass seed.


Grass seed varieties are tested in a program called the NTEP trials. They test in several different states and this lets us know which varieties will work well in our area. We utilize the NTEP trials to pick our varieties every year.

This is a high-end blend that is guaranteed to please. PTT is our custom seed bag filled by handpicked farms in Oregon. This is a handpicked, professional quality blend that is tested with great results in the TN climate.

Offered in 5lb and 50lb bags


This blend is designed to survive and thrive in those shady areas. A mixture of tall fescue, fine fescues, creeping red fescue and rye. Our shade blend can get those difficult areas looking good. 


Tip: Grass does need sunlight to live, so any trimming of a trees shade canopy you can do will help matters.


Best time to seed is in the fall but you can have success in the spring.


Tip: Grass seed in shady areas needs a good amount of water, those nearby trees like the water too!
